Valentin Bruyère
Portraits of Valentin Bruyère made while he moves: kicks, falls and half-finished gestures caught in the studio, then taken toward film stills, black and white, and flat colour.

We asked Valentin not to pose. He moved in front of a white backdrop, kicking, leaning past his balance, folding his arms against his chest, and the camera followed him. The frames we kept sit between two movements, where a gesture is only half done.
The set stayed bare so that the body carries each picture: plain light and a lot of white around him. Some frames were then graded like stills from a film, with warm skin and dense blacks. Others went to black and white.
The last image takes him out of the studio altogether and puts two of those moments side by side on flat blue and red, closer to a poster than to a portrait.
